It’s Circular Economy Week: 12–18 October 2026
Circular Economy Week is a great opportunity to rethink how we use resources, reduce waste and make more sustainable choices in everyday life. The circular economy encourages us to reuse, share and keep products in circulation for as long as possible.
There are environmental benefits, too. A lifecycle assessment commissioned by the UK government found that reusable nappies could have a 25% lower carbon footprint than disposable nappies, depending on how they are used and cared for. Washing at an appropriate temperature, running full loads and line-drying when possible can help reduce their impact further.

Reusable nappies are a perfect example of this approach. Unlike disposable nappies, reusable nappies can be washed and used again and again, helping families reduce waste. They can also be passed on to younger siblings, friends or other families, giving them a longer life and helping others discover the benefits of reusables. It’s always nice to see parents at the end of their reusable nappy journey, as you can see our lovely parent in our feature picture, passing on valuable experience and dropping off items for the next family to make use of, ensuring a cost-effective solution as all items are free to take.
Our Give and Take events put circular economy principles into practice by helping families pass on items they no longer need and find useful things for their own children. Instead of good-quality items going to waste, they find a new home. These events also make reusable choices more accessible and encourage families to share resources within their communities. Have you checked out our recent events calendar? We also give away maternity clothes and baby clothing up to 12 months old at our Islington ‘Give and Take’ monthly event. We have an upcoming event in Hackney on 21.10.2026; do check dates to see if they work for you at Events Diary – Real Nappies for London.
We help families get started with reusable nappies through our voucher scheme. Eligible parents and foster carers living in the participating London Boroughs (Barnet, Brent, Bexley, Camden, City of Westminster, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Kingston, and Waltham Forest) can apply for a voucher worth up to £70 towards buying reusable nappies or trialling a nappy laundry service.
The circular economy does not have to be complicated. Choosing reusable nappies, passing on outgrown items and sharing with other parents are simple actions that can make a difference when we all take part.
This Circular Economy Week, discover how reusable nappies support the circular economy, reduce waste and help families save resources through reuse and community events.
Reuse more, waste less and give good things another chance!
