We don’t need a handful of parents using reusable nappies perfectly; we need millions of parents using them imperfectly!
This was our take away message from April’s Reusable Nappy Week and it resonated with so many of you on social media. With parents and carers receiving so many messages about raising children sustainably, it can be overwhelming to know where best to focus your limited time and even more limited energy.
For Great Big Green Week (8th – 16th June 2024), and Green Baby Day (12th June 2024), we want to amplify the message that using reusable nappies is a big win in so many ways: reducing single-use plastic waste, lowering your carbon footprint, saving you money, and looking super cute! It’s one of the most beneficial swaps you can make to support a more sustainable, cleaner, greener London.
We want to make using reusable nappies as simple as possible for you, but we appreciate that doing something new and different to the norm can seem intimidating. We promise once you get going, it’s not as hard as you may think. Plus, it does not have to be an all-or-nothing choice; you do not have to swear off disposable nappies forever more! You can use reusable nappies whenever it suits you and your family: at home, just at weekends, overnight…there are many options! What we need is lots of babies wearing them whenever it suits, to help shift the idea that reusables are an all-or-nothing choice, only suitable for a particular type of family.

Voucher Incentive Scheme: If you are a parent-to-be, parent or foster carer with a baby under 18 months, or a child under the age of 5 with a disability that requires the use of nappies, and you live in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Bexley, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Kingston, Waltham Forest and the City of Westminster; you can apply for a reusable nappy voucher worth up to £70. The voucher can help with the upfront cost of buying reusable nappies or contribute to a paid-for nappy laundry service.
