On Saturday (25th June 2022), Alice and I headed to Cygnet Square in Thamesmead for our stall at the Bexley Eco Festival 2022. After just restarting our in-person events this year, it felt amazing to speak to parents at a face-to-face festival that centred around sustainability. There was live music, free food tasters, and plenty of activities for children. We were located amongst other stalls in The Nest, which included a toy swap (Wasteless Market), plastic-free product refills (Miniml) and beautiful homeware that had been made locally from scrap wood (Gaia Homeware UK).

At our stall, we were joined by local Bexley mum Jenn, who used her £50 Bexley Reusable Nappy Voucher back in 2019 for her daughter, and has recently claimed another voucher for her second child who is due in September. Jenn spoke to other local parents about her own experience using the voucher scheme, and how reusable nappies really benefitted her family. She very kindly bought a box of brand new nappies gifted from Baba + Boo (one of our voucher-accepting suppliers), which we were able to distribute to parents to try at home. You can follow Jenn’s reusable nappy journey on her Instagram profile Sweet Cloth Bums.

During the festival we met some lovely organisations that can provide services to parents in Bexley. Kavita is a local parenting blogger The Unlikely Mummy, and is a supportive community for parents that provides advice on mental health and wellbeing. Kavita’s next Family and Well-Being Community Marketplace will be this Saturday 2nd July for all local families. We also spoke to Bianca and Lulu who run Parent Power, an organisation that offers programmes on positive parenting and well-being for both parents and children. Join their monthly newsletters to find out more about their different programmes and events.

If you missed us at the festival and you in live in Bexley, Alice will be running in-person reusable nappy demonstrations at Danson Children & Youth Centre on the first Wednesday of every month (except Aug). The first demonstration along with a pop-up shop with The Washable Nappy Company, will be on Wednesday 6th July, 10am-11:30am – all parents in Bexley are welcome to register, and can apply for and redeem a voucher at the pop-up shop. The demo will cover all the basics on using reusable nappies – how many nappies you would need, a visual guide of the three main types, and advice on storing, washing and drying.

If you are a parent based in Bexley and you are either pregnant or have a baby under 18 months, you can apply for our free reusable nappy voucher (worth £50.00) to buy a pack of reusable nappies and use them save waste and money. You can use our online application form or bring your supporting documents to one of our upcoming demonstrations. All the future dates for the Bexley demonstrations can be found on our Events Diary.
