When winter arrives, we know that the cold weather can sometimes make drying reusable nappies a little bit daunting. Here are our tips to help guide you through the winter to make using real nappies, real easy:
Have a Variety of Nappies
Some reusable nappies dry quicker than others. Having a variety means you should always have some to use. For example, cotton or microfiber nappies dry quicker than bamboo nappies.
Make the Most of Sunny Days
Even if it’s just cold and windy, hanging your nappies outside even for a little while will help dry them quicker. If you do not have outdoor space, placing the nappies on the windowsill in direct sunlight will help them dry quicker and remove stains.
The Option of Using a Tumble Dryer
We always recommend line drying where possible, but not drying them on direct heat as this may damage the material. It is important to follow the manufacturers washing and drying guidelines. If you do choose to use a tumble dryer, put the nappies on a low cool setting. Do not tumble dry PUL wraps. Consider drying the nappies overnight on an airer and finish them off in the dryer in the morning, as a way to reduce the amount of drying time in the dryer.
Get Extra Inserts
Buy new inserts or pick up some for free second hand via Give and Take events to increase the number of nappies available.
Have a Routine
Sticking to a routine will help you keep on top of your laundry. Go at your own pace, do what works best for you, your baby and your lifestyle. It’s ok to use reusable nappies part time – remember even by using one reusable nappy in place of a disposable will save 912 single-use nappies from going to waste.
